Almost Fatal Mistake During Fast Bike Ride

Fast highway hauls have their undeniable appeal, but with speed come a lot of risks, too. Even more, due to the long distances a motorcycle travels in a matter of seconds or even fractions of a second, awareness should be the main concern. But, there’s always a “but”, isn’t it?

It’s always good to check with your fellow riders and make sure they’re alright, or even convey some information regarding refueling stops, the next exit and the like, but only when the first and most important commandment is obeyed: the road safety commandment.

The video after the jump was allegedly posted one year after the actual accident took place, with the rider spending some time in a coma, but making a good recovery. Even though the speed is said to have been around the 140 mph (225 km/h) a closer look at the video would indicate something more in the 100 mph (160 km/h) zone, which is still not the best speed to crash at, if there is such a recommended speed, anyway.

However, this is a “textbook example” of how bad things can go even with a couple of second of lost focus, when travelling at high speeds. Luckily, nobody died, though I believe the occupant of the impacted car got the scare of their life, and the rider will also remember the pains for a long time, with surgery scars as a permanent reminder of the road safety commandment.
