The rumor comes via The Verge, who claims, quoting "familiar sources with the situation", that Tesla will introduce an ultra-premium trim with all-wheel drive for the already successful Model S.

While the company is already working on an AWD powertrain for the upcoming Model X, our source says Elon Musk hinted at an all-wheel drive chassis hitting the market by 2015, separately from the Model X, during Tesla's shareholder meeting in June.

The Tesla Model S is currently available only in a rear-wheel drive configuration. The most powerful version (421 HP and 443 lb-ft for torque) can reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph (209 km/h).
