A few hours ago we promised to return with everything there is to know about the 2015 Volvo XC90 and we're the type of guys that keep our word. Let's start with the big one: pricing for the U.S. market starts from just under $49k for the T6 AWD, while the limited run T6 First Edition goes for $65,900. As for availability, Volvo announces that the online order books open on September 3rd, 2014.
With the 2015 Volvo XC90, it's obvious that the carmaker's parent company Geely has made a lot of financial efforts to develop the new model. Think about the aforementioned's relationship as Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Motors. And we all know how well business is going for Jaguar and Land Rover these days, so it's expected that Volvo will churn out better cars and bigger sales in the years to come.

The new SPA platform acts as the skeleton of the Swedish mid-size SUV. The new XC90 took three years to develop, platform and all, and it's part of an $11 billion investment that will ultimately take Volvo production models to new heights. "This is one of the most important days in our history. We are not just launching a car, but re-launching our brand. This day marks a new era for our company. The XC90 paves the way for a portfolio of exciting new cars to come in the following years," said Hakan Samuelsson, Volvo CEO.

That elegant front grille is flanked by T-shaped "Thor's Hammer" LED daytime running lights. According to the carmaker, this is the new face of Volvo and we'd better get accustomed to it because it will be adopted by all future Volvo nameplates. Moreover, the rear lights will also be a signature design cue throughout the lineup. For styling's sake, customers can choose between various sets of alloy wheels, the biggest of the lot measuring 22 inches. Then there's the cabin design - a sea of Scandinavian luxury and impeccable styling. But we'll let the photo gallery and press release below speak for you. We're more interested with the Sensus Connect tablet-like media system featuring iPad-inspired swiping and pinching functions. Doesn't it look extremely similar to the unit fitted to the all-electric Tesla Model S?

All engines are mated to a new eight-speed automatic transmission. When you add electronically controlled dampers and air suspension to the mix, you can clearly see how big a difference is between the old XC90 and the second-gen model. In total, you can opt between five 2-liter four-cylinder mills: a D4 turbo diesel (190 hp / 400 Nm), the D5 twin-turbo diesel (225 hp / 470 Nm), T5 turbocharged petrol (254 hp / 350 Nm), T6 turbocharged and supercharged petrol (320 hp / 400 Nm) and the cream of the crop - the T8 Twin Engine Plug-In Hybrid that combines the oomph of the T6 with an 82 horsepower electric motor for a total output of "around 400 horsepower with carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of around 60 g/km."

When the online order books open September 3rd at 10:00 AM ET, Volvo will sell you a limited run of the XC90 dubbed First Edition. 1,927 will ever be made and that figure was chosen 'cos it celebrates the year Volvo started making its first car ever - the OV4. This special edition model is coming with serialized plaques, a First Edition logo on the key fob, Onyx Black exterior finish, Amber nappa leather seats, a Charcoal leather dash with Linear Walnut detailing and the full-on 1,400-watt Bowers & Wilkins audio system with its 19 speakers and air-ventilated subwoofer.
