If there’s one Tesla model that’s getting a little long in the tooth, it’s the Model S, which came out back in 2012, so it’s a nearly 10-year old car in terms of its design. It’s no secret, however, that Tesla is prepping a refresh for the Model S, as well as the X, and these aerial images taken at the Fremont factory might actually be our first look at, we suspect, the former.
Granted, there could literally be anything under those covers, but then again, why would Tesla even bother covering up a bunch of cars unless there is something remarkable about their designs? Worst case scenario, we might be looking at a trio of Model S Plaid variants, although possible test mules have already been spotted in traffic.

The Model S Plaid is definitely on its way, though, featuring a tri-engine setup for a total output of 1,100 HP. It will hit 60 mph (96 kph) in under 2 seconds, run a sub-9 second ¼ mile and max out at 200 mph (320 kph). According to Tesla, prices will start from $139,990, and the first deliveries are expected later this year.

Since no official images for the Model S Plaid have made their way online, it’s quite possible that it’s this new Model S flagship hiding under those covers.

Whatever the case may be, The Kilowatts YouTube channel claims that any Tesla redesign will include a new front fascia with a larger central intake, new front diffuser, new fog lamps, rear bumper, gloss chrome delete, potentially larger brakes, plus a different screen size and orientation for the interior. Meanwhile, their Instagram page also shows what appears to be a Model S with particularly wide fenders, so make of that what you will while the plot clearly thickens.

What about a best-case scenario, you ask? Check out the gallery for a fresh look at that all-new Model S render by Emre Husmen from 2019. It boasts a spectacular design, one that we definitely wouldn't mind seeing in real life.
