Supermini sedans aren't all that popular at the moment and many automakers have shied away from offering them. However, Skoda has two big reasons to consider such a car. One of them is India, the other being China.
Both these growing markets are very important for the Czech automaker's future growth and they enjoy huge demand for sedans. So much so that an Indian-spec Rapid sedan actually preceded the European model by a whole year.
Based on the all-new Skoda Fabia supermini revealed a couple of weeks ago, graphic manipulator Theophilus Chin recently proposed this design for a Fabia sedan, something not seen since the Mk1 went out of production in 2007.
All things considered, it's not a bad looking machine, certainly more handsome than the Ford Fiesta sedan. Simple lines and flat surfaces make for an uncluttered looking little car. However, the automaker currently has no plans to put it into production.
Although larger and more spacious, the Rapid sedan is cheap to buy, so there really isn't that much wiggle room in the range. Only in emerging markets, where features like air conditioning and side airbags can be cut, would the Fabia sedan make sense.
Competitors? Well, we're quite excited about the all-new Mazda2, which will also have a sedan version. There's also the Nissan Sunny/Versa, Dacia Logan and the ever-spreading Datsun brand and its small cars.
