After being revealed in April, Opel's brand new Vivaro commercial vehicle range is now available for order in Germany, soon to be joined by other major European markets.
Right now, only three major versions are available in Germany: the regular cab, which starts at €28,072 including tax, the double cab van for €31,285 and a Vivaro Combi microbus for €30,327.
Opel offers this in a total of three easily understood trim level (1, 2 and 3), two wheelbases and two gross weight classes (2.7t and 2.9t). There's plenty of choice in the engine range as well, with a multitude of different outputs for a 1.6-liter diesel block. Single turbo models produce either 90 or 114 hp, while brand new 1.6 BiTurbo units deliver an even more impressive 120 and 140 hp. Torque levels also vary between the 192 ft-lb (260 Nm) of the base model to 250 ft-lb (340 Nm) for the 140 hp BiTurbo.
Four standard non-metallic colors are available, including a dazzling new "mamba green". Metallic shads are also added as a €750 optional extra for those wanting car-like brown, silver or pearl white vans.
Much is to be expected from this new German light commercial vehicle. Since its launch in 2001, the Vivaro has racked up 600,000 sales and Opel believes the key to its success will be car-like features like engaging steering, LED accents and a large IntelliLink infotainment system, which includes a 7-inch color touchscreen, Bluetooth telephone connectivity, audio streaming and advanced navigation functions with maps that can be simply updated by USB download.
