The independent European safety body Euro NCAP has just released a batch of 11 test results for models that vary from electric cars to vans. Among them, Mazda's most important new model of the moment, the new compact 3, provided adequate protection in crash tests and was awarded a 5-star rating.
The Mazda3 was tested in LHD with a 2.0-liter engine, but Euro NCAP assures us the results apply to all other models.
For adult occupant protection, the Mazda3 scored 93%, which is a very good result, though not the best in the family compact class. The only major downside was that in the severe side impact pole test, dummy reading showed weak protection of the chest.
Child occupant protection scores were also good at 86%, which coupled with 65% for pedestrian safety and 81% for safety assist ensured the new car received the maximum possible rating.
