All-New Hyundai Tucson / ix35 Teased with Official Sketch, Will Debut in Geneva

Hyundai has unveiled the first sketch and shown a teaser video of the all-new Tucson compact SUV, also known as the ix35 in many markets, including Europe. It clearly marks a new chapter in terms of design for the company and should be one of the major highlights of this year's Geneva Motor Show.

Scheduled to debut on March 3rd, the Tucson will appear like a more planted, premium car. The muscular stance and bolder design will be its major highlights. Peter Schreyer, the president and chief design officer of Hyundai Motor Group, said the defining feature of the SUV is the signature hexagonal grille, with more pronounced features, like we saw on the i30 facelift, and chrome elements connecting to the headlights.

“Our new compact SUV will be a big step forward for the Hyundai brand globally. The All-New ix35 has a bold and athletic presence and a proud stance. Its design is characterized by flowing surfaces, bold proportions, sharp lines and most important our brand signature hexagonal grille,"
he said in a statement.

Previous reports have indicated Hyundai wants to build something that drives like a premium car, gliding over bumps without knocks in the suspension. The vibe we get from the video is that the choices of colors are just as important to them, almost as if this is a French production, like a Citroen DS from Korea.

Most of the engines will be carried over. However, Hyundai has promised at least one all-new unit, which could either be a 2-liter turbo high-end model with about 240 hp or a 1.7-liter CRDi diesel-electric hybrid system like the one in the Kia Optima T-Hybrid. This could also be the first Hyundai SUV ever to be fitted with a twin-clutch gearbox, like the ones announced for the i30 facelift.

Check out the video below to see Peter Schreyer's design insight into the new Tucson and make sure to stay glued for more details.
