After the South Korean auto manufacturer released the first details and photos of the second-generation i20 at the beginning of August, Hyundai is now trying to get us excited about the new supermini with a detailed look of the cabin and its highlight features.
Some of you might remember that the first-gen i20 wasn't on par with the Volkswagen Polo or Renault Clio in terms of fit & finish and material quality. It was a sea of hard, durable plastic, but the lack of visual sauce was counterbalanced by a wide array of standard equipment, including a USB slot and Bluetooth connectivity for Android or iOS phones.
With the second-generation model, Hyundai has given the i20 a colorful, comfortable feeling that creates a more pleasant environment for both driver and passengers. Soft-touch materials on all key surfaces are now fitted as standard, with many surfaces dressed in high-grade Thermal Plastic Olefin (TPO) giving the dashboard and door trims a more upmarket look. TPO is also highly durable to wear and tear, which is nice.
Stitching on both front and rear seats has been developed and executed at high standards to be hard-wearing and stylish, in keeping with the rest of the interior design. As for color schemes, four vibrant hues are available: Elegant Beige, Grey Blue, Cappuccino and Comfort Grey. The Hyundai design team says that each interior color took inspiration from current interior design and lifestyle trends.
A colored inlay that runs the full width of the dashboard and around the handle on the door emphasizes the width and available space, giving the cabin a brighter feel. Redesigned air vents, which overhang the dashboard into the doors, have been shaped specifically to provide better air flow into and around the cabin. That chic inlay color matches the color of the seats.
A unique-in-segment feature is the panoramic sunroof, which can be tilted or fully opened to fill the i20's cabin with natural light and fresh air. Two higher segment features are also available on the new i20: an automatic windscreen defog system, as well as a heated steering wheel for those cold, wintery mornings.
Apart from the 3.5-inch OLED LCD Supervision Cluster, the more demanding customer can opt for a dashboard-integrated 7-inch satellite navigation system, auto folding mirrors, front and rear parking assist, a phone docking station and an audio system lets you save 1 GB of your favorite music.
The new Hyundai i20 will make its public world premiere at the 2014 Paris Motor Show on October 2nd.
