All-New 2015 Chevrolet Trax Breaks Cover

After the GM subsidiary teased us it will bring no less than three new models to the New York Auto Show this week, it looks like the 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible and 2015 Cruze will share the spotlight with this encore of the Buick Encore (pun intended). Chevrolet announced the 2015 Trax small-SUV will go on sale in North America early next year with only one engine option.

If you squint your eyes a little, you'll observe that the Trax is more or less a Buick Encore (rebadged as the Opel Mokka in Europe). In terms of practicality, the interior is relatively spacious as opposed to other models in this segment, featuring lots of cubby holes and a boot measuring 18.7 cubic feet (530 liters), storage space which you can extend to a whopping 48.4 cubic feet (1,371 liters) with the rear seats folded.

Powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder Ecotec mill, the small crossover will have to make do with only 138 horsepower and 148 lb-ft (200 Nm) of torque. The anemic engine sends power to the front wheels via an automatic slushbox offered in standard, while four-wheel drive comes as an optional extra.

Also in standard, the 2015 Chevrolet Trax is equipped with ten air bags and a seven-inch touch screen infotainment system with single USB port and an auxiliary audio jack in the upper glove box for plug-in media. Next-gen MyLink, BringGo navigation, SiriusXM Satelitte Radio, OnStar 4G LTE with Wi-Fi connectivity and Siri Eyes Free for Apple iPhone iOS 6 and iOS 7 are optional extras that promise to accommodate customers' increasingly connected lifestyles.

“Trax offers customers another option in the Chevrolet family and will be a strong competitor in the emerging small-SUV market, which is expected to grow more than 80 percent by 2016,” said Alan Batey, General Motors senior vice president, Global Chevrolet. “Trax also leverages our global resources and builds on Chevrolet’s strong SUV heritage.”

The 2015 Chevrolet Trax will be offered in LS, LT and LTZ trims, with pricing to be announced later this year.
