The current generation SEAT Leon caused quite a stir when it was first revealed, back in 2005, in a similar manner to that of the Renault Megane Mk II, when it was launched in 2002. Now, though, according to a Spanish forum (and site), we have the first reasonably credible photo of what could be the third generation Leon.
The picture, taken of the rear of a bright red car clearly shows the name ‘LEON’ on the bootlid, underneath an oversized SEAT logo. We are quite sure, however, that this is the new Leon, despite it looking strikingly similar to the recently revealed fourth generation Renault Clio, and while that's no bad thing, we would have liked to see a little more of what made SEATs special, and not VW Group blandness all the way.
It doesn’t look bad, but it will never have such an impact as its predecessor, because judging by what can be seen in this sole picture, they seem to have lost their flamboyant latin design flair. We hope the rest of the car will prove us wrong, but if we were to dig a little deeper and have a look at their newRapid Toledo, which is one of the blandest cars we’ve seen recently, you can understand our concern.
