If you're wondering what's the occasion, you might not be such a die-hard racing fan after all. Otherwise you'll know that the premier automobile racing series will celebrate its 60th anniversary this year.
“This will be a truly special occasion, especially for all those who love F1 and who have been following the sport for many years. (...) This promises to be something spectacular,” said Whitaker, according to a report from the GMM news agency.
He actually insisted that all past champions of the sport will be there to celebrate (the living ones, of course), meaning a total of 20 ex-racers. That would include names like Alain Prost, Nigel Mansell, Nelson Piquet, Alan Jones, Mario Andretti, Emerson Fittipaldi, Jack Brabham and John Surtees, among others.
And yes, all you Kimi Raikkonen fans out there, it's likely that your favorite Finn will also attend the Bahrain Grand Prix, this time as a spectator. The 2010 World Rally Championship – where the 2007 F1 champion will now be part of – doesn't schedule any round between the 12 and 14 of March, so Raikkonen will be free to join the field at that date (if he also agrees to it, of course).
In addition, almost 20 title winning cars driven by some of those champions will also be on display for the fans, throughout the duration of the weekend.
