All-Electric Motorbikes Now Eligible for $2,500 US Federal Incentive

This is the piece of news which all prospective EV moto buyers from the US were waiting for. The Senate Finance Committee has just approved a $2,500 federal credit incentive for all-electric motorbikes. The value of the incentive is based on the price of the EV bikes (10% of it, up to a maximum of $2,500).
This tax break will also support the efforts of car manufacturers, many of which are considering entering the two-wheeled part of the EV market, with BMW, Audi and Smart already well on their way to having an all-electric motorbike/scooter on the market in the not too distant future.

It is expected that the new incentives will cost the US government a mere $7.5-million per year, which doesn’t really seem like that much, because when the people involved in this usually talk about money it’s hundreds of millions and billions. Also, to save some costs, the EV tax credit for golf cats (which we didn’t know existed, frankly) will be cancelled, so the $7.5-million per year figure will actually be even lower.
