Alguersuari Praises Teacher Schumacher

Jaime Alguersuari insisted that, while he lost the chance to score his very first point in Formula One in Australia, he learnt so much more from eventual 10th placed driver at Melbourne, Michael Schumacher.

Dropping down the field due to a problem with his front wing – which he had to change early in the race – Schumacher had to do a recovery race all day and barely made the Top 10 with a few laps to go. However, the fight for 10th place was a thrilling one, as the Mercedes GP driver was held behind the Spanish teenager for no less than 34 laps last Sunday.

Eventually, with 5 laps to go, the 7-time world champion passed Alguersuari for the Top 10 position. Nevertheless, the Spaniard had only nice things to say about the German, especially since he taught him a valuable lesson in how to make better use of his tires.

About Michael, I can only say that he behaved like a super professional. He put a lot of pressure on me, but he didn't do anything that would result in a conflict between the two of us. I only cared about defending the point,” said Alguersuari, according to Autosport.

Schumacher took away a point, but without realising it he gave me much more. He taught me how to understand better the tires. If they had been better preserved, I would have done a one-stop strategy and I'm sure I would have been able to secure the points.

However, I realize that very soon I will be able to make better use of the tires - especially the soft ones. With the hard ones, I'm starting to be at its maximum performance level, although I have to preserve them longer,” added the Spaniard.
