Alguersuari Not Present on FIA's 2010 Entry List

Jaime Alguersuari might think he has signed a new one-year deal with Scuderia Toro Rosso for the upcoming Formula One season, but the latest 2010 entry list released by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) on Monday seems to argue otherwise.

The 2010 Formula One entry list does confirm the fact that Sebastien Buemi will compete for the Faenza based outfit in 2010, but the second seat for Toro Rosso next year is filled by the TBA (to be announced) mark. And this came as a shock to Alguersuari's management team, who confirmed the fact that their client already inked a deal with the team.

Jaime's contract has been signed and renewed for next season so this is very surprising news. Jaime is, as we speak, undergoing physical and psychological training with the Red Bull team in Austria in preparation for the upcoming season,” said a statement from Alguersuari's management team, according to a report from the Associated Press.

Alguersuari himself told the Spanish newspaper Marca that “we signed a deal a few months ago,” wanting to bring an end to the speculations that Toro Rosso is on the lookout for a second driver in 2010.

The Spaniard, who last year became the youngest driver to start a race in Formula One, replaced Sebastien Bourdais in the Toro Rosso lineup last season, immediately after the German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring. Having climbed into an F1 cockpit without any prior testing of the STR4, Alguersuari failed to score a point throughout the second part of last season.

As we write this article, Toro Rosso is testing a new set of young promising drivers at the Jerez track, as part of FIA's scheduled rookie testing scheme. Brendon Hartley and Mirko Bortolotti were chosen by the Faenza officials to test the last year's challengers during the course of this week.

It's interesting that this piece of information comes less than 2 weeks after Alguersuari had signed an ambassador partnership with Spainish car maker SEAT.
