Alguersuari Lobbies for Buemi to Stay at Toro Rosso

Recent rumors on the drivers' market have hinted that Sebastien Buemi's racing spot with Scuderia Toro Rosso is no longer secure. What set it off was the impressive performance managed by Red Bull's leading junior driver Australian Daniel Ricciardo during the recent rookie F1 test in Abu Dhabi.

It then continued with STR's boss Franz Tost telling the media that Buemi “struggled” at times throughout the 2010 campaign. While doing that, he also praised the maturity displayed by Buemi's teammate Jaime Alguersuari, at his first full season in the series, which led many to believe that the Swiss racer may face the axe prior to the upcoming campaign.

Probably sensing the same thing, Alguersuari avoided to reveal any inside info on Buemi's situation, but insisted that had his teammate benefit from a Red Bull car on the Abu Dhabi track a few weekends back, he would have scored much better lap times than Ricciardo.

I don't know what will happen. What I can say is that if my teammate (Buemi) had driven a Red Bull, he would do better than Ricciardo. Without a doubt,” said the Spanish driver during an event to unveil the Red Bull prototype car for the Gran Turismo 5 video game, according to the Diario AS newspaper.

As far as Alguersuari is concerned, Tost's latest comments came to strengthen his seat for 2011. Aside from praising his evolution in 2010, the Austrian team boss also suggested that great performances are expected from the Spaniard next year.

I'm very proud of what he said because I think I have improved this year and I intend to keep going that way,” replied the 20-year old racer.
