Alguersuari Confirms STR Stay in 2011

When the International Automobile Federation (FIA) announced the official entry list for the 2011 Formula One championship (provisional), some teams appeared on it without any confirmed driver. If that situation was somehow explainable in the case of the new teams, Force India and Scuderia Toro Rosso surprised us a bit.

Since the allegations centered around Force India's vacancy have filled the media lately, it's time to focus on STR. And, as most of you noticed, there's a new trend in F1 at the moment, which sees drivers confirm themselves in press interviews, rather than wait for an official confirmation from their teams.

Jaime Alguersuari is the latest driver to subscribe to this, when asked about job security for the upcoming season with the Faenza based squad. Questioned about his absence from the FIA entry list, Alguersuari answered ironically: “Because I'm thinking about leaving F1 for music.” For those of you who don't know, the Spaniard is an amateur DJ in his spare time.

I am with Toro Rosso, for sure. I don't know why people are playing this game – I am in Formula One, 100 percent,” he continued on a serious note.

“I want to keep doing the work we have been doing and above all to finish seventh or eighth in the constructors' championship,” added the Spaniard, revealing his target for 2011. “The team and I gave everything this year. We didn't have the car for any more. On a personal level I'm happy with myself and I hope that in 2011 we can keep improving.

Additionally, he reconfirmed his aim to become a Red Bull racer in 2012, once Mark Webber's contract with the Milton Keynes based team runs out. Nevertheless, he admitted this prospect is closely linked with “how next season goes.”
