If you're looking for the sharpest driving experience delivered by a production crossover, you can't go wrong with the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Q. Of course, the way in which the 510 horsepower model feels from behind the wheel isn't enough to generate hefty sales for the automaker, which is why Alfa Romeo is on a quest to introduce a complete crossover family. And a compact crossover, which was previewed by the Tonale Concept last year, is next in line.
Due to Fiat Chrysler still working to figure out its financial plan, the production version of the Alfa Romeo Tonale isn't expected to land before 2021.
Even so, the renderings above portray the showroom version of the high-rider. To start with, the concept car seemed pretty close to a production vehicle. And these renders use front and rear elements that resemble the one one's you can find on Alfas that are already on sale - the front and rear lights, along with the rear valance and exhaust tips are the main changes here.
So while the first two images above are the said renders, the rest of the gallery portrays the machine at its debut, which took place back in March (think: Geneva Motor Show).
The Tonale, which may or may not keep this nameplate for the real world, is expected to ride on the compact platform that underpins models such as the Jeep Compass. Of course, the architecture will be tweak to deliver the driving engagement mentioned in the intro.
At the top of the range, we'll find a hybrid setup that should see an electric motor powering the rear axle and an internal combustion one working with the front wheels.
Speaking of which, the non-hybrid engine range could include the 1.3 turbo and thr 1/6 Multi Air II turbo. So what about a diesel?
Well, the latest rumors talks about the Italian automaker skipping the oil burner even for the traditional European markets, but it's still too early to tell.
And since we mentioned Alfa Romeo's crossover plan, you should know the carmaker could replace the Mito with a small crossover, with this also serving the purpose of bringing more female customers to the brand.
