Rumor has it the next Alfa Romeo Spider, which is scheduled to arrive in late 2015, will boast 170 HP and blend lightweight engineering and modern styling, Autocar reports.
Although the vehicle’s design has yet to be revealed, the new Spider’s styling is almost ready, with company sources claiming it will be modern and in accordance with Alfa Romeo’s current design language..
“The new Spider definitely won’t be retro in design. The Spider has to be contemporary and must fit into the range with the modern 4C,” said a source. “It would have been easy to go for a retro, boat-tail design, but how would that fit in with the 4C and today’s Alfa designs?” another source added.
Based on the next-generation Mazda MX-5, the 2015 Alfa Romeo Spider will be built in Japan and launched with a version of the company’s turbocharged 1.4 TB MultiAir engine that will send 170 HP to the wheels.
