Alfa Romeo has no BMW 3 Series rival and no affordable supercar to offer its Australian customers. They do, however, have a new 0.9 Turbo TwinAir engine with two cylinders… don't laugh!
The sexy supermini which is named after two Italian cities, Milano and Torino, has only been offered with two 1.4-liter MultiAir engines up until now in Australia. The basic 1.4 turbo is used by the normal Mito and offers 135 hp through standard TCT 6-speed auto gearboxes. There's also the more powerful 170 hp version which goes into the Quadrifoglio Verde hot hatch version of the car.
The new 0.9 adds a bit more efficiency to the range. The engine is produced by Fiat and was first installed in the 500 city car. It produces 63 kW (85 hp) of power and 145 Nm of torque. Sales in Australia will start this January, when the 2014 lineup is launched.
