Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4l MultiAir Start/Stop Released

As announced back in June, Italian manufacturer Alfa Romeo launched today the 1.4l MultiAir engine choice for the MiTo. The engine will be offered with three different power levels - 105 hp, 135 hp and 170 hp – for prices yet to be announced.

Only two of the three engine versions will be made available at first, with the 135 and 105 hp versions to be available for all the MiTo range outfits. The third, the 170 hp unit, will arrive later, together with the brand new and unique “Quadrifoglio Verde” outfit. All the engines will be paired with a manual gearbox with either 5 or 6 gears.

The 1.4l MultiAir engines provides some 10 percent more power and 10 percent more fuel efficiency than a traditional petrol engine with the same displacement. According to Fiat Powertrain Technologies data, particulates drop by up to 40 percent and NOx level are brought down to half.

The mid-range 1.4 Turbobenzina 135 hp engine for instance, allows for naught to sixty sprint "at the very top of the mini category." CO2 emission levels for this engine stand at 129g/km of CO2, while fuel consumption rating stands at 5.6l/100 km.

The biggest of the three, the 1.4 MultiAir Turbobenzina 170 hp unit provides 39 g/km of CO2 and 4.8 l/100km over the extraurban cycle, while the smallest (as in less powerful), 105 HP 1.4 power unit "ensures full involvement at the wheel".

No matter how appealing the new engines are, the star of the new MiTo addition is the Start&Stop system, used for the first time on an Alfa Romeo.

The new engines also bring with them fresh colors, including he new metallic shade Tornado Blue.
