Alfa Romeo Goes Back to the States with Giulia

We already knew this was going to happen, especially since Fiat announced a strategic alliance with Chrysler. So, Alfa Romeo will go back in the United States and the first model to be offered to American customers is none other than the Giulia. The new Giulia sedan, often referred to as the 159 replacement, is likely to be more attractive for this particular market than the already popular in Europe MiTo or Milano.

The news was confirmed by CEO Sergio Cravero in Turin, just-auto.com wrote. It appears that the first models will find their American owners in 2011 or 2012 and will be built at a Chrysler factory. Obviously, as we know from the product plan of the now allied automakers, the Giulia will share its platform with another Chrysler model.

"The Giulia is a car that could be the most interesting for the US market," Cravero told Bloomberg News. "We need to build cars together with Chrysler that have an Alfa Romeo soul. We have to find a solution that makes sense economically. We can't wait 10 years to see results."

Cravero said that Alfa Romeo aims to sell around 250,000 cars a year. Besides the Giulia saloon, Alfa Romeo will also bring an SUV plus a larger sedan that will be developed in collaboration with Chrysler, he added.

As announced earlier this year, Fiat will also begin selling cars in the United States. The 500 will be the first model to arrive in the US as a Fiat, with many other vehicles manufacturer by the Italian company to be launched in this market as well but only as rebadged Chryslers.
