The idea behind a Veloce version of the Giulia, which was first announced a few days ago, was to offer something more than standard and a bit less than Quadrifoglio when performance is concerned.

Therefore, Alfa Romeo created one of the most alluring variants of the Giulia, which is dubbed Veloce and provides something in between, with a look that matches its capabilities.

The Giulia Veloce is available with two power plants, in the form of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that provides 280 HP, or with a diesel engine that also has a two-liter displacement, but produces 210 HP and a strong peak torque of 470 Nm (346 lb-ft).

The latter is available starting at 1,750 rpm, which is a rather low value even for a modern diesel, and that will provide enough acceleration capabilities to make you grin when passing its German rivals on the road.

All Veloce models of the Giulia will come with Alfa Romeo’s Q4 all-wheel-drive system, and the eight-speed automatic transmission comes as standard for these cars.

The result is a challenge that will make Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class drivers look in their rear-views in fear as the Italian sedan is approaching. It is no M3 killer, but it will rattle the segment a bit with its flair and performance.

As you can behold in the photo gallery of this article, Alfa Romeo has presented a Giulia Veloce in the launch color, which is a beautiful shade of blue. It reminds us of a shade that used to be available on the 159, the predecessor of the Giulia, but that did not have the same hue.

All we can say is that it suits the Giulia Veloce charmingly, and that it would make us think twice about wanting one in Red or Black, when this beauty is on the options list.
