Alfa Romeo Giulia Specs Released for 2.0 and 2.2 Models

Every car nut knows that the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is the fastest four-door sedan on the Nurburgring thanks to a lap time of 7 minutes and 39 seconds. It’s faster than a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 or a Lamborghini Murcielago, which is saying something about the performance credibility of this thing.

The belly of the beast is a 510 PS (503 horsepower) twin-turbo V6 engine displacing 2.9 liters. But let’s keep our feet on the ground for a moment and agree that few people have more than $70,000 to spend on a Giulia. The harsh reality is that most people will go for less expensive models, such as those equipped with the 2.0 GME T4 turbo and the 2.2 JTDM diesel.

Let’s start with the one that drinks high-octane gasoline at a rate of 5.9 liters per 100 kilometers (39.8 US mpg) on the combined cycle. Only available with the 8-speed automatic, the 2.0 turbo develops 200 PS (197 hp) and 300 Nm (243 lb-ft) of torque. That’s enough for a sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.6 seconds. Pretty good for a compact executive sedan.

As for the 2.2-liter oil-burning engine, the specs are as follows:

- 150 PS (148 hp), 380 Nm (280 lb-ft), 6-speed MT, 7.9 seconds; fuel economy: TBA
- 180 PS (177 hp), 380 Nm (280 lb-ft), 6-speed MT, 7.2 seconds; fuel economy: 4.2 l/100 km (56 US mpg)
- 180 PS (177 hp), 450 Nm (332 lb-ft), 8-speed AT, 6.8 seconds; fuel economy: 4.2 l/100 km (56 US mpg)
- 180 PS (177 hp), 450 Nm (332 lb-ft), 8-speed AT, 6.9 seconds; fuel economy: 3.8 l/100 km (61.8 US mpg)

Only the 2-liter turbo is available with all-wheel-drive. And yes, there’s no word on the fuel economy of the least powerful diesel available in Europe. As for the automatic variants of the 180 PS diesel, you’re not seeing things. The latter of the two variants listed above is more economical because it is equipped with what Alfa Romeo calls the Eco. In plain English, it's a package that adds fuel-saving features similar to what Audi does with the A4 2.0 TDI ultra and what BMW does with the 320d EfficientDynamics.
