Whoever said beauty is on the inside must’ve been talking about the Alfa Romeo Giulia. Don’t get me wrong, the exterior is breathtaking as well but the cabin is perfectly matching its claims of performance and the Italian flair the car has overall.
The new Giulia, especially in QV guise is clearly here to make a statement and by the looks of things, it’s going to cause a lot of headaches for the traditional Germans that have been dominating this segment for years. That’s right, watch out M3 and C63 AMG!
When it comes to straight up performance, the figures seem to be on the Italian’s side but as we’ve come to learn, power isn’t everything these days. However, for some cars out there, the interior we’re looking at here might become a genuine Nemesis.
Yes, I’m referring to the M3 that, no matter how capable it is on the track, can’t hide the fact that its interior is getting rather dull and stale. Well, the Alfa has this in the bag. As you can see, everything falls into place, quite neatly too.
The steering wheel is definitely the center of attention here and it seems like it’s just right in terms of thickness. Of course, its overall design does remind us of the shape the wheel on the M3 has but there are noticeable differences as well. The most important one, by far, is the start button that is glued to the center hub, a la Ferrari.
The center stack features carbon fiber trims that definitely don’t work on every car, but they seem to be doing the trick here. The gearshift knob looks just like it should, with a simple, round shape that makes shifting gears a joy, I’m pretty sure, as the throw doesn’t seem that long from the length of the lever.
Right next to it you’ll find three circular buttons. The one to the left will probably change the car’s character, allowing you to choose between various driving modes, the center one seems to be sporting a touch-sensitive surface on top to control the infotainment system while the last, smaller one is still an unknown right now. Even the HVAC controls adhere to the same circular design as the rest of the cabin which isn’t a bad thing. However, if there’s one thing we’d protest against, it’s the gap between it and the center console.
Overall, things are looking really good inside the new Alfa. One more detail is missing and that’s the seats. Hopefully, they’re going to be just as supportive and comfortable as on the Ferraris the Giulia is clearly following. Expect a full set of photos to be released later this week.
