Remember the Alfa Romeo presentation from the Capital Markets Day 2018? The Italian company let it slip the GTV and 8C are coming back, and in addition to those, the SUV lineup will welcome three new models.
The product portfolio through 2022 reveals the Stelvio will be joined by a long-wheelbase model, whereas the E UV will see Alfa Romeo join the seven-seat club. The bigger of the two models is also confirmed to benefit from mild-hybrid technology, combining the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a 48-volt e-turbo for an output of 350 to 400 horsepower.

Lower down the spectrum, the C UV will serve as the jacked-up alternative to the next generation of the Giulietta. Both models are understood to ride on the Giorgio platform, employed at the present moment by the Giulia compact executive sedan and Stelvio compact luxury crossover.

AutoExpress
reports the newcomer “will be tasked with stealing sales from the Volvo XC40, BMW X1, Audi Q3, and Range Rover Evoque,” and there’s something more to highlight in this regard. Alfa Romeo’s crossover is the sole option in the segment that uses a rear-wheel-drive vehicle architecture, giving it the edge as far as handling is concerned.

Along with the CUV, the Giulietta is also going Giorgio, and “electrified powertrains are expected to comprise regular hybrid units that will be a replacement for the diesel engines the company has stopped developing. Plug-in hybrid technology is also a possibility.”

It is expected the Giulietta will arrive in 2020, with the baby SUV coming later in the year with Level 2 or even Level 3 semi-autonomous driving capability. Also in 2020, the Giulia will be treated to a mid-cycle refresh that will add a long-wheelbase model to the family.

As for the GTV and 8C, those two should drop in 2021 and 2022, respectively. Both will make use of the Italian automaker’s hybrid technology, offering 600- and 700-plus horsepower.
