When Alfa Romeo launched the 4C sportscar as a concept a year ago, they announced it would have a super-light carbon fiber tub and a 1.8-liter turbo engine producing no less than 300 horsepower from a turbocharged 1.8-liter engine.
That made everything sound quite exciting, but the reality of it all is going to be a little bit different. According to CarScoop, an Alfa Romeo dealer meeting in Switzerland has revealed fresh details about the new model. Just as we expected, the aluminium block four-cylinder engine will actually make 240 PS or 237 HP about the same as the 1.75-liter engine in the Giulietta QV.
The same source suggests the car will weight only 850 kg (1,874 lbs), though we're not 100% convinced Alfa Romeo had the money to develop such a light platform.
What we can believe is that the 4C will be priced between €56,000 and €64,000 (between $76,400 and $87,300 at today's exchange rate).
If more power is what you want, a 270 PS version of the same car will be ready for 2014. However, that will be a more hardcore car called the 4C Stradale (sounds like a Ferrari doesn't it).
Honestly, the 4C now sounds more like a niche car than ever before, and it's actually being treated as one. Production will be strictly limited to just 2,000 examples a year, split evenly between the coupe and an upcoming convertible version.
