Alfa Romeo 4C US Debut Set for 2014 New York Auto Show

After what seems like an eternity, Alfa Romeo has announced that the first step towards its return to North America is being made. The hotly anticipated 4C sportscar built around a carbon fiber chassis will make its way to next month's 2014 New York International Auto Show, signaling the Italians are finally coming Stateside.

The short statement does not tell us anything about the price or when sales will begin, though reports suggest most will come in June through Maserati dealerships, a select few through Fiat ones as well.

The sportscar will also be in very short supply, since production at the factory in Italy can’t exceed 3,500 units per year, due to the complexity of the carbon fiber tub. Of that number, only about 500 per full year of sales (2014 doesn't count) will be delivered to the US.

Official specs for the US market also remain unknown, though the Euro-spec model is rated at 240 HP (177 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque from a 1.75-liter turbo. That's less than some family sedans, but since the 4C tips the scales at 1973 pounds (895 kg dry weight), 0 to 60 mph should take 4.3 seconds (0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds).

"With more than 60 new vehicle reveals scheduled this year, the New York Auto Show is accustomed to hosting a wide range of exciting, newsworthy events," said Show Chairman John LaSorsa.  "The recent announcement that Alfa Romeo is returning to the market and has chosen the New York Auto Show to mark the occasion is very special for us and will be well received by our visitors"

The official statement comes with a time and a date: April 18 - 27, 2014 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan. A preview event will be organized for the press a little sooner, between April 16 - 17.
