The Alfa Romeo 4C is perhaps the most original car built in Italy since the 458 Italia and Aventador. From the carbon fiber chassis to the responsive steering system, it's aimed at maximizing driving thrills.
So far, the Quadrifoglio Verde version has eluded us, which means that the 1,750cc engine doesn't have any more power to give. However, we may have stumbled upon an aftermarket solution to the hp conundrum.
The BR Performance tuning shop from little Luxembourg has announced it has extracted 276 horsepower from the turbo at the heart of the 4C. Torque has also gone up, from 367 Newton meters to 440 Nm. That's an impressive sum, considering the larger 2-liter turbo of the Audi S3 only offers 380 Nm.
The reason they've been able to extract more power than Alfa Romeo is that an aftermarket exhaust system was used. Made by Capristo, it has only 200 cells and allows the air to flow out more easily, resulting in power gains.
We don't have a video of this particular 4C being dyno tested. However, Capristo released something in September 2014 that's worth viewing. Besides the steel pipes, they also provide you with a carbon fiber insert, a nice diffuser, mesh grilles and lots of smaller trim pieces.
Unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, the 4C coupe is the spear in Alfa Romeo's arsenal, taking on the Porsche Cayman and Lotus Exige S. It's a nice piece of kit and comes with a real sense of occasion. Power is sent from the mid-mounted engine to the rear wheels via a revised Alfa Romeo TCT twin-clutch automatic gearbox with selectable driving modes.
