The 4C is already the most interesting Alfa Romeo built in more than a decade. However, if there's one thin that can make a sportscar like it even more fun, it's taking the roof off. That's exactly what Alfa is doing with this, the 4C Spider, which is poised to come out in 2015. Watch out Porsche Boxter, the Italians are coming!
Not surprisingly, the 4C Spider looks just like the concept shown at the Geneva Motor Show. It's more of a speedster than a convertible, which is no bad thing. 458 Italia/Spider fans will look at the 4C and see the cross-breeding.

Ferrari looks in compact packages for a quarter of the price, that's something we stand behind. Also to our liking are the new headlights. The more mainstream design came about because may people complained the old one looked like insect eyes. These will also be available on the 4C coupe starting this October.

Performance-wise, the 4C will use the same 4-cylinder 1.75-liter turbocharged gasoline engine rated at 240 PS (177 kW) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque. Since the carbon fiber tub of the car is already light and rigid, Alfa can get away with only adding 60 kilograms of weight to the Spyder version. At about 955 kg in weight, this will be a featherweight compared to a Porsche Boxster, for example, which tips the scales at 1310 kg in base form with a manual gearbox.

The 4C Spider will be available with a choice of 17- to 19-inch alloy wheels, painted brake calipers and carbon fiber trim pieces for the body and interior. The prototype we spotted has the same double exhaust system with pipes on either side of the car as the 4C. However, a centrally-mounted race exhaust is being developed by Akrapovic, together with race-tuned suspension with new springs and shock absorbers as well as beefier anti-roll bars.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
