Alfa Romeo 4C Joyride Scares SBK Rider Eugene Laverty's Girlfriend

Is 240 horsepower enough for an awesome joyride video? If it's in a diesel Audi A6 or a BMW X3, then probably not. However, if you somehow managed to strap that much power to a tiny 1,750cc turbo engine and fit it into a car weighing well under a ton, it's a totally different story. Surprise, surprise, that's exactly what Alfa Romeo has done with their first driver's car in decades, the 4C.

That's probably the most roundabout way of saying "Alfa Romeo 4C is great for scaring girls" ever. But a cool video deserves a cool intro.

You're about to watch the most terrifying yet exciting minute in the life of Philippa Morson, who was the unwilling protagonist of a car+girl joyride video. She's the girlfriend of SBK Superbike World Championship rider Eugene Laverty, but that didn't prepare her for what happened.

The girl was convinced by an Alfa Romeo test driver to climb into the 4C thinking it was going to be a slow ride. In fact, the exact opposite was on his mind: driving to the limit, burnouts, wheel smoke and crazy transitions.

While these types of videos can appear shallow and superficial, we can think of nothing better to do with the first rear-wheel drive sportscar from Alfa Romeo in many years. The 4C is built around a carbon fiber chassis and sends the power from its mid-mounted turbo engine via a the Alfa TCT twin clutch automatic transmission. Due to its light weight, the Italian toy can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, faster than you can scream "my boyfriend's superbike is cooler".
