Alfa Romeo released its first SUV this year, shortly after the long-awaited mid-sized sedan to replace the 159.
Before these two models existed in the range, the brand had a distinguishing car in its portfolio, which is available as a coupe or a roadster. It is called the Alfa Romeo 4C, and it is a lightweight two-seater that only comes with a twin-clutch automated gearbox, and it is mated to a four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine.
The said engine provides 240 HP and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque, which is enough for a vehicle that is this small and light. After all, its unladen weight is 940 kilograms (in Europe) for the 4C Spider, while the Coupe is even lighter. The model can get from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.5 seconds, so it's no slouch.
However, some have shown that this little Italian car can be tuned to provide even more power and torque, with a performance increase that will make other cars from that country jealous. The German tuners at Pogea Racing have developed a 313 HP kit for the 4C, which cuts the 0-62 mph acceleration time to just 3.9 seconds, while the top speed can go up to 301 km/h.
Alfa Romeo will not keep the 4C in its lineup for ages, but this model is expected to remain available until 2020. By that moment, the Italians could launch a Quadrifoglio version of the 4C, which could be offered as a swan song for this model. It might also be introduced when the brand decides to facelift this car.
Along with more power and torque from the 1.75-liter engine, Alfa Romeo could add even more carbon fiber to the 4C, and reduce the weight of this model by 22 to 44 lbs (10-20 kg). There’s no official word on this version, but it is one of the possibilities that are on the table for the sports car.
