Alfa 8C Spider, the Most Beautiful Car of 2009

The Top Gear magazine has named the Alfa Romeo 8C Spider the Most Beautiful car of the Year, making the car the most innovative and exciting one of all the cars launched in the last year.

The very limited edition model is powered by a 4.7l V8 engine that generates a maximum power of 450 hp. The powerplant is mounted longitudinally behind the front wheels while the transmission has been transferred to the rear.

The power from the engine is being controlled via a 6-speed F1-style paddle shift gearbox, allowing the car to reach 62 mph in 4.5 seconds and top at a speed of 181 mph.

There’s no doubt that the 8C Spider is a sensational supercar but to have the recognition of the Top Gear panel is a perfect way to end the year,” Damien Dally, UK Brand Communications Manager said.

The Alfa Romeo 8C Spider will see a 500 units limited production run, with 35 of them to reach the UK. Here, the 8C is priced from £174,000, but this has not proven to be a deterrent for those who wanted it, as most of them have been already reserved. For those who didn't get one...

"The the latest models in Alfa Romeo’s line up have taken inspiration from the Alfa 8C Competizione and Spider – such as the sporty compact Alfa MiTo and 2010’s Alfa Giulietta," says Alfa Romeo.

Yes, we know, what kind of a comparison is that?
