Akrapovic Exhausts Celebrate Their 25th Anniversary

Akrapovic's story is one that blends in passion and a relentless search for delivering the best products possible, and it spans over a quarter of a century dedicated to one word: Performance.

Started back in 1991 by Igor Akrapovic and a handful of enthusiasts, the Slovenian company steadily grew into becoming one of the benchmarks of the exhausts industry, currently employing over 850 people.

It took Igor Akrapovic six long years to be able to offer the first ultra-light titanium exhaust to consumers. It employed extensive know-how from the road racing world and received its German type-approval in the same year, after being tested by TUV officials on 17 different motorcycles.

One year later, Akrapovic invested in their own tube mill that allowed them to make their own tubes and keep a close eye on the quality of the primary resources used in the manufacturing process of the final products.

Results were not long-expected, as the year 2000 brought the first WSBK title for Akrapovic, with Colin Edwards and his Honda machine. It was the dawn of a new era, as the demand of Akrapovic exhausts exploded, prompting the Slovenian manufacturer to build a much larger and better factory in 2004.

That same year, Akrapovic and Yamaha agreed on taking a bold step together. The new MT-01 machine received an Akrapovic full-titanium exhaust system that was offered as standard. The next year, Akrapovic revealed their (now) signature hexagonal cross-section cans that would become a model imitated by multiple other makers.

Akrapovic built their own metallurgical and measurement lab

After designing and patenting an ingenious chamber for off-road bikes that improved both performance and sound, Akrapovic decided it was time to gain even more control over the materials they would use in the future.

Between 2007 and 2009, a top-drawer metallurgic and measurement lab was built and it would offer an unprecedented control over the most in-depth materials testing.

After organizing the first exhibition that gathered almost all the key racers using Akrapovic exhausts and their machines in 2011, the Slovenian maker tasted the first total success in motorcycle road racing one year later. Riders using Akrapovic exhausts won all the three GP classes: Jorge Lorenzo with Yamaha in MotoGP, Marc Marquez with Suter in Moto2, and Sandro Cortese with KTM in Moto3.

2014 brought a Red Dot Award for the Akrapovic Evolution Line Titanium full exhaust system for the Ducati 1199 Panigale and a new carbon exhaust "alien" paradigm. Last year, Akrapovic rounded up 100 world championships, also with Lorenzo.

Much better known for the motorcycle exhausts, Akrapovic is also becoming one of the reference names in the automotive industry.
