Is there anybody here who does not love Airstream’s timeless polished aluminum designs? We are fervent admirers of the oldest trailer and recreational vehicle coachbuilder in the industry. That would be due to Hawley Bowlus’ styling heritage, still present and a constant reminder that you could very well attach a pair of wings and engines to Airstreams and probably make them fly.
No wonder, considering Bowlus is also the author of Charles Lindbergh's best-known aircraft, the Spirit of St. Louis. Still, we need to get back on the ground and remember these are intended for vehicle use. And we know Airstream is using a TRD Pro family member (of course it is the best-selling Tacoma) alongside the Basecamp 20.

Still, our first thought seeing the trailer was that Volkswagen should give them a call to partner on the Atlas Basecamp line. On the other hand, this is Airstream’s biggest-selling travel trailer model – although not particularly the longest at 16-feet. This is because the company reinvented the Basecamp nameplate as a suitable solution for smaller vehicles – an SUV or a compact pickup.

All the while, the model launched back in 2016 still includes all the convenience elements one would need during an adventure – from a full kitchen to the restroom. The all-new Basecamp 20 and X-Package 20X build on that, expanding the standard model’s dimensions in every direction.

It arrives with a larger dinette space (which doubles as an additional bed) that can now host up to four adults, and there’s also a larger bed measuring 82 by 78 inches. The company also added new storage options inside, an exterior shower, individual fresh water, gray water, and black water tanks with a flushing system for the latter.

For many the most interesting choice could be the X package, with the Basecamp 20X featuring bigger Goodyear off-road tires and stylized wheels, a lift kit, stainless steel front stone guards, along with tinted window guards and a double main step for the entry door.

Both the Basecamp 20 and Basecamp 20X will become available this summer and Airstream promises they will remain affordable at MSRPs starting from $45,900 for the Basecamp 20 and $48,900 for the 20X (the 16 kicks off at $38,400 and the 16X goes from $41,100).
