UK’s independent safety review system SHARP has named the AGV Pista GP the safest motorcycle helmet from a total of 331 helmets from around the world which have been tested. It is not a first for AGV, as May has also seen the Corse helmet receiving the maximum score, 5 SHARP (Safety Helmet Assessment and Review Program) stars.
According to speedweek, AGV’s Pista GP helmet received this significant ranking as recognition for pioneering the Extreme Standard Helmet project, aimed at raising the bar as far as the overall protection and comfort motorcycle helmets must offer in order to aspire to a top position in the industry.

AGV started to implement the Extreme Standard Helmet in creating customized helmets for the iconic racing legend Valentino Rossi, with the main difference from the other manufacturers being that the construction of a helmet started from the inside out. The rider’s head was scanned for determining the best shape of the EPS and comfort liner must have in order to match the rider’s biometrics as closely as possible.

This step also indicated which of the exterior shell sizes is the most appropriate for the best protection, weight and ultimately, wearing comfort. The optimum contact between a rider’s head and the protective layers inside the helmet is critical when it comes to absorbing the energy of an impact and dissipating it across the helmet instead of transferring it to the skull. Adding the premium FEM (Finite Element Analysis) standard ensures that the results are living up to the expectations and their quality is consistent through the production lot, offering the same protection in similar conditions.

“I consider the PistaGP helmet a tribute to Gino Amisano, an entrepreneur I admired for his ability to innovate, the records he achieved, and the competitive spirit with which he faced every challenge. The new helmet is part of the AGV Extreme Standards project, which, in line with the qualities established by Amisano, revolutionizes the way helmets are designed, setting new records for protection and ergonomics that are clearly evident. The next generation helmets arising from this project are intended to place AGV, once again, in a leading market position with its technology,” says Lino Dainese, President of Dainese and AGV.

AGV Pista GP Carbon helmets are available worldwide for around $1,400 (€1,090).
