If you are not satisfied with the range of your Nissan Leaf, live in the US and have some money to spend, you can now opt for an extra battery pack to be added inside your car, in order to considerably boost its range. A Michigan-based company, Enginer, is selling 4-, 8- or 12- kWh battery packs which can be installed to boost the existing pack’s capacity.
With that larger pack, the car’s range is boosted from 116 km (73 miles) to 176 km (110 miles). The main issue here is the cost, as the 12-kWh battery pack will set you back $7,500 and it requires a “lengthy and complicated” installation process.
For those who have the money for this additional pack, and if it proves to be as safe as the original pack, it would really make sense, as it would make the Leaf a considerably more practical proposition, even for those who do inter-city commuting on a daily basis.
