Although it has a three-decade history on the U.S. market, people seem to have had more negative feelings towards Volkswagen’s Passat nameplate as of late. So, the series will have to contend with the inevitable.
America’s version of the legendary family car will not be with U.S. buyers in 2022 anymore. Something that was only logical, considering the Dieselgate scandal, the more affordable and only slightly smaller Jetta. Or the popularity of Volkswagen’s local crossover SUVs.
That means you are soon to be deemed ready for standing out in a crowd if one still owns a Volkswagen Passat. An interesting perspective when thinking that you can have the OEM spec and be done with it. But, still, it would take a connoisseur to realize that you are driving something that’s both rare and extinct.
Just in case stock VW Passats are not for you, there is always more than one solution. The first option would be to seek a real-world aftermarket resolution. Another interesting perspective, though, comes from across the virtual realm. And it’s quite a handful. No chances of flying under the radar with this one...
Sugar Chow, the pixel master better known as sugardesign_1 on social media takes a very unusual “time machine” detour from the station wagon-focused “Touring the world!” periplus. Sure, we have seen other pickup truck conversions from this CGI expert before, but none of them had the vintage atmosphere exuded by this one.
Unfortunately portrayed here in a CGI form (it would have been a hoot to drive such a thing in the real world!) is an old Volkswagen Passat. One that was digitally converted to a vintage pickup truck life! As far as we can tell, we are dealing with the B2 iteration of the legendary family car series. Also known as Santana, Corsar, Quantum, or even Carat, depending on the market.
But for most of the world, it’s the Passat/Santana. Only that probably no one has ever seen it looking like this. It’s a truck now, and one that comes complete with a slammed atmosphere, an outrageous widebody aerodynamic kit, and even a stacked, quad-exhaust setup. Plus, not to mention the additional lights on the roof and around the front bumper, as well as the Aerodisc-style aftermarket wheels!
