Moulton Taylor decided he had enough of road congestion and boring commutes, so in 1946 he started dreaming big and created the first flying car.
Six were built, all offering detachable wings which could be installed by one man in five minutes. The car used the same engine to drive on the road and to move a pusher-proppeller mounted at the back.
On the road, the wings and tail are taken off, and the car can supposedly hit 60 miles per hour (98 km/h).
The second one ever built is AeroCar N101D and is owned by Greg Herrick's Yellowstone Aviation. It’s been maintained in flying condition and is on display at the Golden Wings Flying Museum located in Minneapolis.
Now, the machine is being offered for sale via Hemmings.com for the insane price of $1,250,000 (€1 million). We know it’s exclusive, but for that sort of money you can get a Pagani supercar and have money left over for a light aircraft.
