The Aero-X “flying motorcycle” has been in the works for some time now, but it looks like things are finally heading for a potential “last straight”. The price announced is $85,000 (€62,000), pretty much you’d pay for a modern electric car in the upper range, a conventional luxury sedan or an entry-level sports car, but the fun factor of the Aero-X will be hard to beat.

This contraption uses a petrol-powered 3-rotor aspirated rotary engine with oil-cooled gearboxes, and can carry two persons, with an air speed up to 45 mph (72 km/h). It can hover as low as inches off the ground and will climb as high as 12 feet (3.6 m). The existing tank provides fuel for some 75 minutes of flight, Aerofex also says, adding that the engine uses plain automotive gasoline.

The Aero-X weighs in at 785 lbs (356 kg) and can be equipped with optional, specialized gear, as the potential uses for this “motorcycle aircraft” reach into the surveillance, rescue, relief and agricultural operations and more. Airbags are optional accessories, as well, the maker says. The Aero-X takes the term “off-road” literally off the road, or should we say ground even, and adds a new dimension for personal transportation.

All deposits are fully refundable, Aerofex says, and safety measures include 3:2 engine redundancy, a redundant control system, a roll bar and shrouds around the fans’ carbon fiber blades. The controls of this machine are intuitive and we believe flying/riding this machine will be really cool and fairly easy to learn.
Until someone gets the Star Wars stormtrooper Speeders ready for shipping, the Aerofex Aero-X flying motorcycle/ hover bike/you-choose-a-name is as close as we get to the future of transportation.
