Adam S Is a Diluted OPC from Opel / Vauxhall

Over the years, Opel has stuck its famous OPC badge to some pretty strange creations, which included a V6-power FWD sedan and even a minivan. That has kind of hurt the performance division's reputation so with their next hot hatchling they are playing it pretty safe. For its first ever go-fast version, the Adam minicar has put on the "S" badge. Not worth a look? Far from it.

The Adam S is being previewed in Geneva this week, arriving there with the biggest engine yet fitted to the car. It's a 1.4-liter ECOTEC turbo, similar to the one in the bigger cars like the Mokka or Astra. However, power has been bumped up from 140 to 150 PS while torque sits at a respectable 220 Nm. Numbers are just numbers unless you put them in perspective, which is exactly what we have to do. At 150 hp, the 1.4-litter turbo is just as peppy as the 2005 Ford Fiesta ST. It will be about 50 hp down on its big brother, the Corsa OPC (expected to get 200 hp), and will straddle the gap between the regular 135 hp regular 500 Abarth and the 160 hp esseesse model.

The manufacturer won't tell us how fast it will get from 0 to 100 km/h, but they did reveal the top speed is a respectable 220 km/h or 138 mph. Considering the car measures about 3.7 meters and weighs under 1.2 tons, you're pretty much guaranteed a thrill.

A new grille with the trademark Opel wing, a large rear boot spoiler and carbon-look mirror caps work together well and bring a subtle yet sporty look. Styling differences over the regular Adam include larger 18-inch wheels which are there not only for cosmetic reasons, but also to make room for the massive new performance brake which require 16 inches of space up front.

Recaro sports seats have been installed, together with a leather sports steering wheel, gear lever, handbrake and different trim for the seats and doors in leather with red stitching. You can check out our favorite feature in the adjacent photo, dials with carbon-look faces and red accents which are fantastic.

Finally, an Adam that's not so Eve! Yeah, it's cool, but we'll wait for the real OPC.
