The Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil Club, the biggest auto club in Europe, with over 18 million members, has an annual award ceremony in which the best cars get recognized.
The Gelber Engel prize is given every year in five different categories: Car, Innovation and Future, Quality and Personality. This year, the BMW F10 520d EfficientDynamics received the prize for the Car of the Future category, making it a first for any diesel engined car. Amazingly, the Toyota Prius 1.8 Plug-In Hybrid and the Yaris Hybrid received the second and third place.

The 520d EfficientDynamics BMW is equipped with a turbocharged 2-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine that has an output of 184 HP (380 Nm of torque) and has several innovative options that allow it to achieve a combined fuel economy of just 4.5l/100km with 119g/km CO2 emissions that are furthermore reduced by the usage of a diesel particulate filter and oxidation catalyst with a NOx absorber.

This is achieved thanks to energy saving tires (with reduced roll resistance), an optimized gear shift indicator, brake energy regeneration, an adapted final drive ratio and a centrifugal pendulum absorber integrated in the dual-mass flywheel of the engine.

Due to all these innovations, the Nitrogen Oxide emissions already comply with the EU6 standards.
