Acura NSX Production Kick Off Delayed Until Early 2016, Report Claims

It was only April when Acura gave us another reason to jump for joy, as the company released additional info on the NSX sportscar.
But it seems they're also playing the 'hot and cold' game, or at least that's what we can make of their latest decision that involves delaying production start until 2016.

This new and not very optimistic piece of information comes from a report on Automobile Magazine that says the new model will begin production in spring 2016, not this fall, as initially announced and expected by fans and wannabe owners.

According to the same source, Acura officials claim the delay occurred because of the NSX's engine layout.

As you know, the new NSX was supposed to get its power from a naturally aspirated V6 - as seen in the NSX prototype from 2012 - but changes appeared in the development process when engineers added two turbochargers.

That move called for a rethink and rebuild of the V6 engine, which now needs a longitudinal configuration and also more time to become a reality.

In case you're asking when will the new NSX go on sale given the new delay, we can tell you that Acura will hold a company meeting with dealers later this year in October, where they'll try to come up with an answer to this question.

The new Acura NSX is expected to wear a $150,000 sticker, but that didn't stop Jerry Seinfeld from ordering one on the spot in Detroit, where the upcoming hybrid supercar met the public for the first time.

Under the car's sleek outer shell, a 3.5-liter V6 will be delivering an estimated output of around 500 horsepower (take it with a pinch of salt), with the aid of three electric motors.

Also present on the new NSX is a Super Handling All-Wheel Drive System along with ten air-cooled heat exchangers keeping the powertrain's temperature under control.
