There’s one thing about famous actors that we like, they can switch auto brands with no problem. Actor and part-time DJ Idris Elba was involved with Jaguar on several occasions, until recently, yet here he is, breaking records with a Bentley Continental GT Speed with no sense of remorse.
OK, we're probably exagerating with the changing brands thing, but you know what we mean.
The endeavor is part of a compilation of pushing limits type of activities. The British actor is taking his sporting enthusiasm and engineering know-how to the limit by racing on land, water and in the air. His speed record will air this summer when Discovery Channel will release the four-part series "Idris Elba: No Limits."
As we said, Elba was driving a black Bentley Continental GT Speed when he reached speeds of 180.361 mph thus breaking the “Flying Mile” record. This rate exceeds the 174.8 mph set by Sir Malcolm nearly 90 years ago in his legendary Napier-Campbell Blue Bird. The event was verified and recorded by the UK Timing Association.
“It’s an honor to have taken on the challenge, and to follow successfully in the footsteps of the illustrious Sir Malcolm Campbell,” the Golden Globe winner said after the race, according to the BBC. As to the car he used to break the previous record, we’re guessing it’s his since he could as well choose the Jaguar XE for the job.
After all, he recently finished a 750-mile road trip from London to Berlin which he documented in a four-part video. It’s a deal Jaguar closed with The Wire actor to promote their sports saloon, so we're sure they would have been more than satisfied to help him with it.
