Recent BMWs are known to have one problem in common. Well, maybe two, if we include the dated interiors but the other one we’re talking about is the sound they make.
Obscenely accused of ruining the car industry, their Active Sound Design system is the embodiment of what most BMW fans find wrong with the brand today. And yet, that was only done to please the same customers that eventually were disappointed.

ASD is basically BMW’s way of keeping you in touch with what happens under the bonnet without having to look at the rev counter. Most of us take for granted the fact that we can shift gears judging just by how the engine sounds but things changed in recent years and cars have become more and more sound proof to offer more comfort on long trips.

That means that the sound of the exhaust is also muffled out when the windows are closed. That’s a problem that had to be solved and since you can’t drive your car with the windows open all the time, BMW thought of this solution.

Unfortunately (or fortunately?), ASD is implemented only on M cars. For the other models, you’ll have to find different solutions, if you’re not satisfied with the way your car sounds like. The most common fix is to get a louder exhaust.

Most tuning companies offer complete exhaust solutions to help you out. The includes the complete works, from the engine block to the rear bumper but AC Schnitzer has a different proposition. At least for the 435i they do.

They are offering interested customers a new rear silencer that completely changes the sound of your car. At first, you might think that’s not nearly enough to be worth the money but you might be surprised of the results, just like we were. Check it out in the video below.
