It seems to us like the Netherlands is slowly becoming packed with all sorts of unique, beautiful cars. We’ve seen a lot of them over there lately and this last addition is not different.
We’re talking about a BMW i8 tuned by AC Schnitzer, probably the only one in the world right now as the German tuner just released its offering for the plug-in hybrid.
That’s right, AC Schnitzer has a package ready for the i8, but it’s not what you may think. Just like Manhart Racing before it, the German tuner is also having problems in tuning the 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine under the boot.
Therefore, the only things you can get from them for your i8 to spice things up are aerodynamic parts and wheels. As for the last item, ACS claims that their specially designed rims are even lighter than BMW’s. That says a lot since the Bavarians worked really hard to make sure they’re not affecting the performance of the car.
As you can also see on this particular model, the changes are restricted to a new air splitter for the front bumper, a new wing on the boot and new side sills. All of them are made of carbon fiber, of course, to make sure the weight added on is not considerable.
The thing is, the i8 doesn’t actually need the wing on its back for more downforce. The gaps on the sides, that cut into the taillights are there for this same reason and they do an excellent job, as we learned from our time with the car.
That being said, the whole thing looks fantastic and we can easily forgive the owner for using the wing just for show, it’s an awesome add-on.
