AC Schnitzer X4 Police Vehicle Makes World Debut at 2014 Essen Moto Show

Last year, the guys from AC Schnitzer brought a BMW 4 Series Coupe modified in tune with the Tune It! Safe! campaign that the German Police is sponsoring every year. This year, they went for a bigger size but smaller engine and picked a BMW X4 xDrive20i model instead.

Part of a program meant to make people more aware of the dangers they expose themselves to when they tune their cars to make more torque and horsepower, the Tune It! Safe! program is alive and well this year too.

As you can see in the video below, the Sport Activity Coupe was dressed up in Police livery, even though originally it was Sapphire Black. The roof gained a light bar and the rest of the car was dressed up with all the aerodynamic parts AC Schnitzer has to offer.

Therefore the front bumper received a new spoiler lip, the rear bumper a diffuser and four tailpipes for the custom exhaust and the front fascia received flashing lights from Hella that come in AC Schnitzer’s own design under the kidney grilles.

Technical improvements

Under the hood is a 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder plant making 184 HP in standard guise. On the upgraded ACS version, the X4 now makes 245 HP and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque that allow it to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.7 seconds. The top speed is rated at 212 km/h (131.6 mph).

For the extra fumes to be handled correctly, the exhaust was also changed with one built in-house that features four tailpipes, two on each side. The sound changed accordingly as well.

On top of the power increases, a new suspension system also had to be included, the original being replaced by an ACS spring kit that allows a lowering of 30 mm overall, both up front and at the rear.

This is the 10th time AC Schnitzer teams up with the German Ministry for Transport, Building and Urban Development and the fourth time they did a complete car for the Tune it! Safe! campaign. Stay tuned as we’ll be bringing you live photos from Essen where this car will be unveiled today.

UPDATE: We added fresh photos of the X4 Police Car, live from the Essen Motor Show 2014 floor, just as promised. Check them out in the photo gallery below.
