AC Schnitzer BMW M5 Competition Hits 300 KM/H In 28.85 Seconds

The M5 Competition is already impressive, cranking out 625 PS and plenty of torque from 4.4 liters of displacement, eight cylinders, and two thumpin’ turbochargers. But with some tuning from AC Schnitzer, the mid-size sports sedan levels up to 720 PS and 850 Nm (627 pound-feet) at the crankshaft.

That’s some serious performance if you look at the bigger picture, a match for the McLaren 720S in terms of horsepower yet torquier than the mid-engined supercar from Woking. Equipped with more than 30 upgrades, the AC Schnitzer BMW M5 Competition in the following clip also happens to be quite a fast car.

From lighter wheels to different springs, carbon-fiber details, performance exhaust, and different mapping for the engine control unit, the Bavarian luxobarge hits 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.3 seconds. Being quick from a standstill is one thing, but 200 km/h (124 mph) in 10 seconds is hugely impressive for such a heavy vehicle. Better still, 300 km/h (186 mph) takes 28.85 seconds of full-throttle action.

The speed tests were performed at the High Performance Event in Papenburg in partnership with Continental and Auto Bild on an oval-shaped track with two long straights. On full song, the test driver achieved 309.3 kilometers per hour or 192.1 miles per hour in the all-wheel-drive land missile which weighs 1,940 kilograms before options and aftermarket modifications from the German tuner.

That’s 4,277 pounds in U.S. currency, more than the entry-level configuration for the Ford F-150 full-size pickup truck. If you were wondering how fast this car is on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, we’ve attached another video from AC Schnitzer with an M5 that managed to lap the Green Hell in 7 minutes 29 seconds. For reference, the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 lapped in 7 minutes and 23 seconds while the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG couldn’t do better than 7 minutes and 30 seconds.

All in all, this is what boggles the mind about the M5 and M5 Competition. The combination between luxury sedan and performance machine simply boggles the mind, all the more with a few mods from specialists such as AC Schnitzer.
