AC/DC Lead Singer Brian Johnson Visits MG HQ in New "Cars that Rock" Episode

When I saw AC/DC live, while they were on their two-year world tour promoting the band’s final studio album to feature founding rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young, I was amazed. Unfortunately, it was the last time. However, things cheered up quite a bit, when we found out that Brian Johnson, the lead singer of the Australian band, is not only a true petrolhead, but that he is, in fact, hosting an auto show.

The show is called “Cars that Rock” and a second series is about to premiere this Thursday. It was announced today that that this Thursday’s episode will see Brian visiting the MG factory, as he will be taking a look at the brand’s roots with a ride in MG’s very first race car.

Johnson will also take the MG3 for a drive test, meet two MG enthusiasts who celebrated the brand in their own way, and race in one of the fastest British cars ever made. Sure, the fact that they got the AC/DC icon to feature the company’s vehicles on a television show is an important marketing venture, but we feel the need to ruin it a little.

We have no problem with the man himself, of course, but the whole “British car” thing is a bit overused with this one. After all, we all know that MG is not that Brit anymore. By the start of 2000, the company was part of the MG Rover Group which entered receivership in 2005 and the assets were purchased by its new Chinese owner Nanjing Automobile Group (which later merged into SAIC) for £53 million ($82.25). Production then started again in 2007, in China, and limited production in the UK as MG Motor.

But don't worry, we're still going to watch the show either way.
