Abu Dhabi Confirmed for 2011/12 GP2 Asia Calendar

Abu Dhabi may have been ousted from the main GP2 Series next season, but the championship will continue to be part of Yas Marina's F1 Grand Prix support package in 2011. And that's because the 2011/12 GP2 Asia Series will start off in Abu Dhabi.

According to the latest announcement made by the GP2 organizers, the Asian series will feature two trips to Abu Dhabi in 2011, one as part of the Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix weekend late in the year and one in February, when the 2011 GP2 Asia Series will kick off.

The latter date will also witness the debut of GP2's third generation car, which will continue to race throughout the 2011 spring campaign of the GP2 Asia Series, before making its official competition debut in Europe.

As reported by us and confirmed by the GP2 Series organizers yesterday, the next year's main series will be ran exclusively in Europe, without any trips outside the Old Continent. Consequently, the season finale will no longer be held at Abu Dhabi (they also lost the right to host the last round of the 2011 F1 season), but at Monza, between September 10-11.
